I'm writing this, because more and more poeple encounter problems running Rune on new hardware and keep asking me how to fix it. Please read this before you ask me about this problem (again).
The Problem
Rune runs way too fast then slow and then fast again. This repeats itfselfs as long Rune runs.
The Cause
Many new CPUs reduce their CPU clock while the CPU is not heavily used to save energy and prevent unnessecary heat. Rune checks the CPU clock during startup. Most of the time your CPU isn't heavily used at startup so it's still in it's reduced status. Once Rune has completly started the CPU is used more and because of that increases it's clock to it's full power. And that speeds up the whole game.
Another cause for this problem can be a Dual-Core processor.
The Solution
a) Disabling the dynamic change of the CPU clock:
Go to your Control Panel and doubleclick on Power Settings. There change your energy settings to Always On.
b) Telling Rune the CPU clock manually instead of letting it find out itself:
Rightclick on the shortcut with that you start Rune and lick on Properties. Add a -cpuspeed *Write the speed of your CPU here* (so if your CPU clock is 1800 you write 1800 there) to the target line and click Ok.
Note: If you have a Dual-Core CPU with both cores running at 1800 Mhz your CPU speed is NOT 3600 Mhz, but 1800 Mhz.
c) Running Rune on one core only (for Dual-Core CPUs):
Read the instructions given in this article to find out how to run the game on only one core.
d) Look if you have something like Energy Star scheduled and deactivate it.
If you still have problems after trying all of the solutions then contact me on MSN or ICQ.
